ASAA announces version 2.1 updates to the SleepHealth Mobile App Research Study

The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) is pleased to announce the upcoming 2.1 version upgrade of its groundbreaking sleep tracking app.

The SleepHealth Mobile App Research Study, first launched in March 2016, released an upgraded version on November 1.

“This is one of the most exciting studies I have ever been a part of,” says Carl Stepnowsky, the ASAA’s Chief Science Officer, sleep researcher and clinician. “To co-design this study with patients and to be able to ask questions of participants about their nighttime sleep and daytime functioning as they go about their normal daily lives represents two ways we are trying to do research differently!”

ASAA Partners with Achievement, Platform for Clinical Recruitment and Healthy Actions

evidation achievement asaa american sleep apnea association

Let's Get Healthy!

In 2017, the American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) entered into a valuable new partnership with Achievement, an online platform that rewards users for healthy actions.

One of Achievement's most important functions is to promote clinical research participation opportunities for users.

Earlier this year, they featured ASAA's SleepHealth Mobile App Study, which resulted in 1100 new enrolled participants.

(You can learn more about our successful SleepHealth App here.)

How Achievement directly benefits you, the user

What may be even more interesting to program participants is that Achievement rewards their users—with cash!—for taking healthy actions.

Now you can get paid for your healthy actions. If you're already tracking your sleep activity, you can now get paid to do so.

What is a healthy action? These include participating in clinical studies (like the SleepHealth App) and using connecting apps to track certain information about your day-to-day health, such as sleep quantity and quality.

The Achievement program also rewards participants who track more than just their sleep, such as those who use fitness trackers or who track their heart rate.

If you're a health data buff and use tracking wearables and apps to keep you on track for good health, you will want to participate in this program.

Sign up for Achievement today!

Why? Because the ASAA shares the Achievement platform's mission: to help you improve your health. And because, quite frankly, you get to benefit directly by participating!

To show they are serious about rewarding people for taking their sleep health seriously through healthy actions, the folks at Achievement have decided to make a donation to the ASAA for every person who signs up for their platform!

Check out the details at myachievement.com/welcome/asaa!

Please take a moment to sign up at Achievement. It's not only an important research recruitment tool, but a fun and easy way to track and improve your sleep (and wake) health!

Sign up now and Achievement will make a donation to ASAA in your honor. If you aren't already using our SleepHealth Mobile App Study, you can do so, free, here at the iTunes store.

What is the Vernal Equinox?

The Vernal (or Spring) Equinox is the more formal, scientific name for the First Day of Spring.

The equinox is the moment in which the plane of the Earth's midline, the Equator, passes through the center of the Sun.

This creates the only time when the edge of night and day known as the "solar terminator" runs completely perpendicular to the Equator, causing the day and night to be equal in length

In this moment, both the Northern and Southern hemispheres are also equally illuminated.

The only other equinox takes place in fall and is called the Autumnal Equinox. This year's event takes place on September 22.

How to survive the sleep deprivation caused by Daylight Saving Time

Monday morning coffeeThe upcoming change to daylight saving time (DST) will make people feel like they’ve lost an hour of sleep.
At 2am this coming Sunday morning, March 12, we are expected to “spring” our clocks one hour “forward.” This synchs our shared schedules to an artificial time reset.
The practice originally evolved to build more sunlight into the work day for the purposes of productivity and safety.
However, sleep deprivation caused by DST has since become the result of that infamous “law of unintended consequences,” with risks to both productivity and safety an ironic negative outcome.

Do you need a new mask for your CPAP machine?

Start your New Year with a New Mask
 for your CPAP Machine

Do you use a CPAP machine? When was the last time you replaced your mask? Did you know it is recommended that you change your mask at least every 6 months? This is because the silicon can lose its structural integrity which can mean increased mask leak. A good seal makes therapy more effective and you get more benefit from your CPAP machine.
Due to generous donations to the American Sleep Apnea Association, we have 2 different replacement masks available which we wanted to let you know about:
The ResMed Quattro masks are available in medium and large sizes and include headgear. The Philips Respironics Amara masks ship with 2 headgear sizes (small and large) and 4 cushion sizes (petite, small, medium and large). These both retail for over $175.
For a program donation of $25 you can get one mask, or two for $45, or even 3 for $60. All masks are shipped via USPS first class.
Just complete our simple online order form here.
A prescription is required.
Make better sleep your New Years Resolution!
